Black Hill

There are two places relevant to St James where the dead of the two World Wars are commemorated.  The first is the iconic Black Hill War memorial just to the south of Stonehaven.   The complete list of those commemorated is shown on a separate page.  There appears to be some, but not much overlap, between the two.

The Black Hill memorial was erected by the Town Council and dedicated in 1923.  Its design is deliberately made to look unfinished, to represent the unfinished lives cut short by war.
