St James’ War Memorial

There are two places relevant to St James where the dead of the two World Wars are commemorated.  The first is the iconic Black Hill War memorial just to the south of Stonehaven.  The second, above, is in the church itself, in the north-west corner of the nave.

In the window alcove to the right of the War Memorial, there is a the plaster figure of a soldier, resting on his rifle.  This was made a prisoner-of-war in one of the camps near Stonehaven.

The complete list of those commemorated is shown on a separate page.  There appears to be some but not much, overlap between the two.  It’s not clear why there appeared to have been little coordination.
