Booklet 1 – Opening of St James
The service for the opening of the St James organ – 21st December 1881
The hymn numbers quoted here refer to Hymns Ancient and Modern (first edition, originally published in 1861). The figures in brackets refers to the second edition , published in 1875. Presumably both versions were still available for use in the church. The hymns were:
- Processional Hymn 385 (391) – Onward Christian Soldiers – Tune St Gertrude
- Second Hymn – as shown above – a special hymn, taken from “Hymns and sacred lyrics”.by Revd Godfrey Thring, published in 1874, probably played to the tune ‘Ein Fest Berg’
- Third Hymn 320 (215) – The Church’s One Foundation, to the tune Aurelia
- Last Hymn 145 (295) The strain upraise of joy and praise to the tune Troyte No2
