Booklet 13 – Jubilee

In October 1927, the church celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the opening of the new building.  In this time, it had had only 3 incumbents – Henry Flower for his 3 remaining years, George Grub for 9 years and then Dean William Christie for almost 40 years.   Dean Christie was over 70 by this time,  He, like John, must have had a wide circle of friends, and  organised a presentation to John as part of the celebrations.   The efforts must have quite considerable, warranting a printed list of all the subscribers to John’s presentation..  Looking at the list, some members (e.g. the Adams’s, the Christie’s, the Masson’s and the Taylor’s) used their extended families (many of whom would have attended St James as children) as a source of contributions..
