Booklet 5 – Stonehaven Guide

Before the days of the internet and Google, most towns regularly produced a printed Guide of all the facilities in the town.  This page (which John kept for reasons unknown) gives some idea of how busy and vibrant St James’ was was in the 1890’s.

The guide also contains a short reference to the Cowie Mission.   This outreach reflects the long-standing association of the people of Cowie to the Episcopal tradition (going right back to the days of Rev Alexander Grieg’s imprisonment in the Tolbooth in 1748), but unfortunately very few records of its activities survive.
