Booklet 6 – Grub Farewell
On 22nd October 1890, Revd George Grub (who was the Incumbent of St James at the time of John Wardle’s appointment) left St James’ to take up the incumbency of Holy Trinity, Ayr. After he left, he took the trouble of producing a lengthy and printed ‘Farewell Words’, which reflected the sermon he gave on his last Sunday.
This not only shows the styles of sermons in those days, but contains (on pages 10 and 11) his thanks to John Wardle and the choir for the quality of their contribution.
