Booklet 7 – Workshop Instruction
Organ building is clearly a craft which has been developed over centuries. This is illustrated by the (lack of) level of detail that Wadsworth’s main workshop needs from their salesman/installer. The workshop instruction book in the archives (the British Organ Archive housed at the University of Birmingham) has just one page for each organ built. Unfortunately the one for St James is missing, but the one for the Banchory St Ternan’s organ, which is very similar, is shown below, with an interpretation. An interpretation of each line is shown below the picture.
